  Job applications and no references

  well, i'm hoping you guys have some suggestions for a pretty odd situation.

  i need to find a job so i can start saving for college.

  i moved back to a town i used to live in last january.

  My daughter just went through the whole job application process, so I know you MUST have received permission form your references to use them. If all you have is your college profs, then get in touch with them and ask if it is alright. If you don't have anyone local, you don't really have much choice.

  If you are asked why you don't have local references, just be low key but honest. Remember that ordinary people have no idea about how culty JWs are , so you woud have to explain that if you no longer believe and have left that religion, that you are shunned. You can't expect understanding from potential employers, if they don't know what is going on. It is also a wonderful, quiet witness AGAINST the Watchtower as ordinary people think shunning is horrible.

  To build some local references, consider doing regular volunteer work somewhere, so they get to know you as a nice, honest reliable person.

  JW article in small town paper

  our small town (2,500) weekly newspaper has an small article tucked on the bottom of the back page.

  it shares with everyone that the jw's are presenting a series of more than 200 conventions across the us centering on the theme "walk with god".

  people of all faiths are invited to 2 of the 3 day events.

  I do wonder if they WT is making a bigger effort to get some good publicity. The convention is in the city where I live this weekend, and there was something similar to what was in your newspaper on the TV news.

  things I do not like about xmas

  aside from the reasons jws give as it being a pagan holiday renamed..... i do not like the fact that parents think nothing of lying to their children about this mythical santa claus.

  and the constant hollywood movies making anyone who exposes the gag as an evil monster...while giving children reasons to believe that santa claus really does exist after all...ignore your older friends who have been poisoned by the secular world.. i find it appalling to ever teach a child to simply expect people to give them things just because the calendar says a certain day.. i find the mindless devoution to christmas to be just as appalling as the brainwashing jws do against it... i see people in my office acting like german clocks... the clock strikes easter and the decorate the office, strikes holloween and they decorate again...strikes christmas and more decorations..... then the frets and worries over what to get who and how much to go into debt over it.. i knew one lady who spent over $300 on a child less than two and was very depressed about two weeks later when the novelty wore off and only very inexpensive things returned as the main attraction.

  I agree completely with franklin J. Christmas is what you make of it. There is no need to max out credit cards to feel the Joy of it.

  hi, i have been lurking at this site and a few other jw or xjw sites in search of some clarity but i am just getting more confused...

  my 15 year old daughter has been dating a 17 year old jw for about 2 1/2 months.

  he seems like a very nice kid--very shy (he is just starting to talk around me now...still not too much to my husband).

  I couldnt agree more, Concerned Mom. If a JW guy isn't supposed to be going out with"worldly girls" and he does believe in JW stuff, he should just stick to JWs and quit messing with the emotions and heads of the normal girls.

  Hi Concerned Mom,

  Oh my goodnesss, am I looking in a mirror??? My teenage daughter had a JW boyfriend for 2 and half years. Things got very confusing and messy. He was a very sweet, talented, smart kid, but, when push came to shove, he was JW. He also wasn't baptised, but I can tell you, that for SURE, he was not supposed to be involved with my daughter. No JW is supposed to associate with "worldly" people.

  You are doing the right first steps by doing research. Is your daughter willing to do some too? JW guys tend not to be too forthcoming about "the truth "about how they are supposed to be behaving, and the rules they are supposed to be following. There are also lots of psychological consequences to being raised a JW that you should be aware of. You and I have lots to talk about! Because I was in such a similar situation, I have lots of bits and pieces of information that may be of help to you.

  Because JWs aren't supposed to date for fun, only for marriage, things can get extremely intense emotionally, very quickly. As some of the others above have said, there is some things in your situation that are very odd. I would be very, very concerned.

  They might be young, but that doesn't mean they can't start to feel that they are "in love" . Then it is harder to your daughter to think straight and to think with her head and not her heart.

  Farkel, I have never met Maximus or had any personal contact with him. I just came across some of his posts and found them so interesting that I kept reading. He was an excellent poster, and what is more important, it sounds like he was a man to be admired in real life. Please give him my best wishes.

  Can anyone help me? Loved one being torn away

  i am not going to divulge any names or contact details as i do not what this being taken much further.. i will cut to the chase, i have fallen in love with a jehova's witness.

  i am not a jehova's witness... can you see where this is going?

  i have been told that her being in love with me is strictly against jw "policy"... now, i have been scowering the net for days now, becomming increasingly insomniate and i have to admit, i have found nothing to support this warning.

  The world of the Watchtower can be pretty baffling for us non-JWs.
  
  My teenage daughter had a JW boyfriend for 2 years, so I looked into it pretty carefully.
  There are alot of rules, written and unwritten that a JW must follow. I learned a lot by reading 2 books published by the Watchtower. One is called "Questions Young People Ask" the other is "Secrets of Family Happiness). At least, then you will see the rules that your gf is expected to live by. Remember if she doesn't follow the rules she can be subject to shunning and losing her family.

  When I read the books, I noticed that the WT quotes people without using references, so you know a doctor said something, but not who or when or in what publication. They also take Bible verses out of context and use part of it literally and part figurtively

  I decided that most JWs grow up with huge feelings of guilt and that the answer to everything is more prayer and going in service. Women are definately second class citizens in the JW world and are required to be submissive. It is part of the marriage ceremony.
  
  You could ask your gf for the books or check at your local library. Also have a look at this site
